Sick Doesn’t Even Begin to Describe it
November 25, 2009We are all shocked, saddened, angry… name it, we Pinoys are feeling it right now.
I’d rather not go into the gory details anymore because I’m pretty sure everybody is updated regarding the massacre in Maguindanao. But whoever masterminded and carried out the shooting is beyond sick. The death toll that started at 22 is now close to 50, and still rising.
Let us pray for the victims. Pray that justice be served. Pray that no more blood will be spilled. Pray for our country. Pray that peace will reign.
It’s almost the end of 2009, and there are still sad events. It’s proving to be one tough year. I can’t wait for a kinder 2010.
[PS. Read the story of one journalist who survived the massacre.]
Ornaments
November 13, 2009Remember the weekend when we went Christmas-decor shopping? We went to Divisoria, then to the mall, and finally back to Las Piñas where there are a lot of vendors selling parol (lanterns) of different sizes and patterns.
First, we went to Divisoria for lights and decors. We spent about 3 hours there just wandering from stall to stall. I wanted to bring my camera to document our trip, but I did not dare. I didn’t use my phone camera either. So when we got home, I arranged the balls and took pictures. That was much safer. I wasn’t satisfied with the trees sold there so we ended up buying one from the mall.
Can you tell which balls came from Divisoria and which ones were bought from the mall? My mom did the haggling so some prices listed here are estimates. The white balls with silver glitters (12 pcs) costs around P180 [probably same as mall prices] but we managed to haggle it down to P140 I think. We bought the small red balls with butterfly design (12 pcs) for just P100 in Divisoria, whereas the red balls with gold stripes (12 pcs) from the department store were priced at P179.00. The large green ones (12 pcs) were not a steal. We paid P200 per box [if I remember correctly]; original price was around P250. I can’t recall the prices for the blue balls, but original price was probably around P150-200.

We bought this set of christmas lights (16 stars) in Divi for P200. We also bought white LED curtain lights (7 ft) for P250 [not pictured here]. Typical christmas lights were being sold in the streets for P100 for 3 items or you can buy per piece for P35. Meanwhile, you will have to pay P60 for one if you opt to buy in the mall.

Our last stop for the day — lanterns. We couldn’t agree on what to get, and lanterns are becoming so expensive, so we ended up buying this small bell design, priced at P1000 [originally set at P1300].
We will go to Dapitan Arcade next week to check Christmas-themed trinkets. All for my ♥ of decorating. =)
My Little Space
November 12, 2009Our home is small as it is. One room is already filled with my our clothes. The living area is occupied by speakers, big ones and small ones scattered around the space for a “surround” effect daw. Whatever. What is it with men and their surround sound…? Too bad Aoi can’t even turn the volume high whenever I’m around because I easily get startled with anything loud.
I have no space for my books.
I told Aoi that I don’t want any other gift for Christmas, just my own bookcase. So that I have a nook of my own. And while we were in the mall one time, I saw the displays in Dimensione. I saw the perfect shelves. White and compact [read: small]. So we bought two white shelves, assembled it ourselves, and stack one on top of the other. It looked like one unit when we were done. Perfect! Christmas came early!
I chose the bright red box (bottom shelf) specifically so that i can’t miss it — it contains our utility bills. The violet bear in the bottom is what I call my “bearie bank” [most kids have a piggy bank]. It has been with me since college. I tell you, a lot of stuff has been bought by my saving spare change. Most recently was my share in our wedding. The other boxes contain my crafting stuff, like punchers, glitter glue, etc. That’s all. It’s pretty much empty at this point but will eventually fill up once I bring home the rest of my books from my mom’s house. Most of the ones I packed were gifts.
I fell in love with the photo frame [with a worn-out effect that is very shabby chic] and ceramic box so I bought them as well. I love the colors. Yup, there’s no picture in the photo frame. I took it out specifically for the shoot. I got shy the last minute that’s why.
A lady bug marks its territory.
We also bought another corner shelving space. This one in yellow. Will feature it in a future post.
DQ
November 10, 2009Just letting you all know that here’s a newly opened branch of Dairy Queen in MOA. Finally!
I have been waiting for so long. Now I don’t have to go as far as Rob Manila whenever I’m craving for a Blizzard. Anybody like DQ like I do?
Why is this news-worthy? Because DQ was an integral part of my college life. Naks! You see, we refer to Rob as our “canteen” since there’s really no decent canteen in UPM [not one that I know of, if I may clarify]. We liked hanging out in the food court during long breaks in between classes. And in the corner of the food court is the DQ store. I remember we used to skip lunch if we don’t have enough money just to buy our favorite DQ desserts. I’m a Mud Pie baby! Oh, the simple joys of the good old days.
Isn’t it nice to find tangible things — like a favorite dessert or a certain tambayan — that will somehow reconnect you to your past? We all have those I’m sure. =)
